What is Kickstarter?

What is Kickstarter? How does it work? How does it benefit both creators and backers? We'll explore the basics of how Kickstarter helps creators make their products a reality while...

With Dicktective getting ready to launch on Kickstarter on September 19th, we wanted to provide you a better explanation of how Kickstarter works and the benefits it brings to backers. So what is Kickstarter?!

Kickstarter is a popular crowdfunding platform that allows individuals and organizations to raise funds for creative projects. It provides a platform for creators to showcase their ideas and gather financial support from a community of backers. But how does crowdfunding actually work? Check out the video below for a visual explanation!

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a method of raising funds for a project or venture by collecting small contributions from a large number of people, typically via the internet. It enables creators to bypass traditional funding methods, such as loans or venture capital, and directly connect with potential supporters.

How does Kickstarter work?

Kickstarter operates on an all-or-nothing funding model. Creators set a funding goal and a deadline for their project. They then create a compelling project page on Kickstarter, describing their idea, showcasing visuals, and setting rewards for different levels of support.

Interested individuals, known as backers, can pledge money towards the project. If the funding goal is reached within the specified timeframe, the project is considered successful, and the creator receives the funds. However, if the goal is not met, no money changes hands, and the project does not move forward.

Why do people back Kickstarter projects?

Backers support Kickstarter projects for various reasons. Some are genuinely interested in the project and want to see it come to life. Others are motivated by the rewards offered by the creators, which can range from early access to the product, exclusive merchandise, or personalized experiences.

What are the benefits of using Kickstarter?

Kickstarter offers several benefits to both creators and backers. For creators, it provides a platform to validate their ideas, build a community around their project, and secure funding without giving up equity or control. It also allows them to receive valuable feedback and engage directly with their supporters.

Backers, on the other hand, get the opportunity to be part of something new and exciting. They can support projects they believe in, discover innovative products or services before they hit the market, and have a sense of pride in helping bring creative ideas to life.
